How it Works

Geothermal Systems Use Natural Energy Sources

Geothermal systems use heat from the ground to create energy. The converted energy is used to heat and cool your home or business and heat water. This ground-fed system can be used in a variety of climates. Because this solves some of the problems created by unsustainable energy sources,it’s no wonder this energy source is in increasingly high demand.

How the System Works

Commercial and residential geothermal systems feature a heat pump that works to heat and cool your home or business. The geothermal process uses the mostly constant temperature of the ground found several hundred feet below the surface.

Water-carrying pipes are drilled to this level underground, where that heat warms the water. The heat pump then uses the water to add heat to your home in winter. When it’s time to cool your home in the summer, the heat pump pulls the heat from your indoor air and uses that to warm the water. It then releases that heat underground.

It’s effective for winter heating and summer cooling, both of which are controlled with a thermostat. There’s also an available extension that can heat water as a supplement to your standard hot water heater.

Maintenance and Upkeep

Geothermal system maintenance is very minimal because the in-ground installation protects the unit from the majority of wear and tear. This means that repairs are few and far between. Many homeowners like the independence of green energy systems, especially geothermal. Geothermal power gives you the confidence that comes from knowing this transfer system is giving back as much as it takes.
